Open the tool in Chrome or Firefox on desktop, click the Choose File button and select a .pdf from your local drive (or drag the file onto the page). The interface shows thumbnails; click a thumbnail to select a page or Shift-click to select a range, then press the Rotate 90°, Rotate 180°, or Rotate 270° buttons shown above the preview. Use Rotate All to apply a rotation to every page, then click Apply to write the changes and Download to save a file named rotated_<originalfilename>.pdf. Processing happens in-browser (no server upload) and the download is a standard .pdf file you can open in Acrobat or Preview.

This tool only accepts PDF files with the .pdf extension as input and always exports a PDF. On modern desktop browsers (Chrome/Firefox/Edge) it comfortably handles files up to about 80–150 MB or roughly 300–500 pages depending on image density and available RAM; very image-heavy PDFs can exhaust memory earlier. Mobile Safari and older browsers struggle above ~20–30 MB or a few dozen pages because of limited memory and WebKit limits. If you hit a failure, split the PDF into smaller parts or use a desktop app for very large batches.

Yes — use the thumbnail strip to select multiple pages: Ctrl/Cmd-click picks non-contiguous pages and Shift-click selects a contiguous range. After selecting, choose a rotation button (90°, 180°, 270°) and then click Rotate Selected; there is also a Rotate All option to apply a single rotation to every page. The Apply button writes the change to the PDF and the Download button gives you a single consolidated .pdf with the rotated pages. If you need automated batch scripts across many files, a desktop tool like qpdf or Ghostscript is faster for hundreds of files.

In most cases the tool uses the PDF /Rotate page flag rather than re-encoding page images, so rotation is lossless and the file size stays effectively identical. However, for some scanned PDFs that contain only embedded images or for encrypted/obscure PDF structures the tool may rasterize a page during processing; those cases can increase file size significantly (sometimes 2–10× larger). If you need to guarantee no size change, test with a single page first and check the output file; for large scanned sets, consider using Acrobat’s Organize Pages which also preserves original streams.

Load the upside-down .pdf into the tool, select all affected pages using Rotate All or shift-select the thumbnails, then press Rotate 180°. Click Apply to write the rotation into the PDF structure and Download to save the corrected file; the resulting rotated_<name>.pdf contains persistent rotation metadata. Note that some PDF readers have their own temporary rotate view — this tool makes the rotation part of the file so it will open upright in other readers like Adobe Reader and macOS Preview.

On mobile you still use the Choose File button which opens the Files picker (iOS) or file chooser (Android); thumbnails load but rendering is slower and memory constrained. iOS Safari frequently limits usable memory so files above ~20–30 MB may fail or cause the browser tab to be killed; Chrome on Android tends to handle larger files a bit better. Touch gestures are limited to tapping thumbnails and buttons — there is no swipe-to-select — and the download behavior will use the platform’s Save/Share dialog, which may prompt to save to Files, Google Drive, or open in another app.

Out of memory errors usually happen with very large PDFs (high-resolution scans, many embedded images) or when using Safari on devices with limited RAM; the browser’s WebAssembly/PDF parser runs out of heap space. Fixes: try Chrome or Firefox on desktop which allow larger memory usage, split the PDF into smaller chunks before rotation, run a lossless recompression (e.g., using Ghostscript or Acrobat) to reduce image size, or perform the rotation in a desktop tool like qpdf if you need batch automation. Clearing other tabs and restarting the browser sometimes helps for borderline cases.

All rotation work in Rotate PDF Online Free is performed in your browser using the File API and a local PDF processing library (WebAssembly/PDF.js), so files are not uploaded to our servers by default. The only data written to disk is the Downloaded rotated_<filename>.pdf you explicitly save; there is no account, logging of file contents, or server-side storage. If you use your browser’s Share/Save-to-Cloud after downloading, that part goes through the services you choose (Drive, iCloud) and is outside the tool’s control.

If you previewed rotation inside a PDF reader that only applies a temporary view (many readers have a Viewer Rotate that doesn’t save), the browser preview might have applied rotation visually but not saved it. Using this tool and clicking Apply writes the /Rotate flag or updates page content so the change is persistent; re-open the downloaded rotated_<name>.pdf in Adobe Reader, then File → Properties → Page Display to confirm the orientation. If Acrobat still shows unexpected orientation, the source PDF may use nonstandard page boxes (MediaBox/CropBox) and you may need Acrobat’s Organize Pages to normalize the boxes before saving.

The tool rotates page content by setting the PDF page /Rotate property, which changes visual orientation but does not automatically swap MediaBox width/height values; the page will look portrait when viewed but the underlying page box dimensions remain the same. That means printed output or strict page-size checks may still consider the old dimensions; if you need to change the physical width/height (for printing templates), use a desktop PDF editor like Acrobat’s Print Production to change the page box or use a resize/split tool. For most on-screen and basic printing uses, the rotation alone is sufficient.

This web tool is optimized for quick, ad-hoc rotations without installing software — it writes the standard PDF /Rotate flag and is free with no signup or watermark. Adobe Acrobat’s Organize Pages preserves all page streams and handles complex page-box normalization and batch jobs more reliably for very large files, while Photoshop always rasterizes PDF pages which destroys vector content and increases size; qpdf or Ghostscript are better for scripted batch operations (example qpdf usage: qpdf in.pdf --rotate=+90:1-3 -- out.pdf). Use the web tool for occasional fixes; use Acrobat/qpdf for heavy production or when you need precise control over page boxes and metadata.

After clicking Download the browser creates a Blob from the rotated PDF and triggers a standard file download; by default the filename is rotated_<originalfilename>.pdf so you can identify the edited file. Some browsers (Chrome) may open the PDF in a new tab instead of downloading; in that case right-click the document and choose Save As to store it locally. If you prefer the original name, save the opened PDF with your desired filename from the browser’s Save dialog or rename the file in Finder/Explorer after download.
