About this tool
MP3 compressor — compress MP3 online without losing quality
If you've ever tried to email a podcast episode, attach a sermon recording to a WhatsApp message, upload a lecture to Google Drive, or fit a music library onto an older phone, you've run into the same problem: MP3 files can be surprisingly large. A 30-minute podcast at studio bitrate can easily hit 90 MB — too big for most email providers and painful on a metered mobile plan. Our MP3 compressor online shrinks those files by 40–70% with no audible loss of quality, so a 90 MB episode becomes a 25 MB file you can attach and send in seconds.
Compression works by re-encoding the MP3 at a lower bitrate using the same LAME-style psychoacoustic model that's been the gold standard for over twenty years. The model only discards audio frequencies that the human ear can't actually hear in the context of the surrounding sound — so for speech, podcasts, audiobooks and most pop music there is genuinely no perceptible difference between a 128 kbps and a 320 kbps file, even on good headphones. You pick a preset (High / Medium / Low quality, or Voice for spoken-word content) and the converter chooses the right bitrate behind the scenes.
Behind the scenes we run FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly, which is the same engine professional editors use — meaning the compression algorithm is identical to what you'd get from a paid desktop tool. Drop a single file or a whole folder of tracks at once, and the queue processes them one after another, with a progress bar and an estimated file-size saving shown for each. Output is bundled into a single ZIP download when you batch-compress an album or a podcast back-catalogue.
Everything runs locally inside your browser, which is especially important for sensitive content: confidential interview audio, unreleased music, voice memos, legal depositions and counselling-session recordings never leave your device, never sit on a server, and aren't logged anywhere. There's no signup, no watermark on the output, no daily limit, and the tool works completely offline once the page has loaded.
