After entering paver size (in mm or inches), joint width, and preferred pattern, press "Calculate" to get paver count, base material volumes, and a cost summary; use the "Costs" panel to update per-unit prices before finalizing.

    The tool first computes the covered area from your shape and divides by the single paver area then rounds up to whole units, and includes an adjustable "Wastage" percentage in the right-hand panel (default 7% for straight patterns). If you select herringbone or diagonal patterns the default waste increases to 10–15% to account for additional cuts; you can manually set it from 0–25%. Joint width is included in the effective paver dimension calculation (input in mm or inches), and the report shows both "Exact count" (before rounding) and "Recommended purchase" (after waste and rounding).

    You can upload JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, TIFF, HEIC and PDF files up to 25 MB per file (Chrome/Firefox handle this best; Safari may convert HEICs on iOS). After uploading, click "Calibrate image" and draw a line between two known points, then enter the real-world dimension to set scale; this is required for accurate traced areas. If a PDF has multiple pages the tool reads the first vector/raster page only, and if the upload fails, use a 72–150 DPI exported PNG or a compressed PDF under 10 MB.

If you use Excel save as .xlsx with headers exactly as above, and the tool will create individual areas from each row that you can edit before calculating totals.

    The calculator asks for chosen base depth per area (common presets: 2", 4", 6" or in mm) and computes volume in cubic feet, cubic yards and cubic meters, rounding to two decimals. It also converts volumes into common supplier units like 50 lb sand bags and tons for crushed gravel using industry conversion factors (for example, a 50 lb bag of sand covers ~0.015 cubic yards); the output lists both volume and estimated bag/ton counts. You can switch unit preferences in the top-right "Units" menu and the report will show both imperial and metric equivalents for contractor quotes.

    Open the "Costs" panel on the right side where default unit prices are prefilled (example defaults: $2.50 per sq ft for pavers, $45 per cubic yard for base material); change these to match local quotes and click "Apply Prices". The tool multiplies material quantities by unit prices, shows line-item subtotals, and includes an editable tax percentage and labor placeholder per area. You can export the detailed cost breakdown via "Download Report (PDF)" or export as CSV/Excel; currency is selectable (USD/CAD/EUR/GBP) but the calculator does not fetch live exchange rates.

    The calculator works in Chrome and Firefox on desktop with full functionality; Safari and mobile browsers support basic estimating but have two limitations: iOS Safari may convert HEIC images and can run out of memory with very large plans (over ~5,000 sq ft traced), and multi-area CSV imports are slower on mobile. We recommend using a desktop for projects larger than 500 sq ft or when importing many areas. If a browser crashes, use the "Export Draft" feature before heavy edits to save a CSV of your inputs.

    If you see "Invalid shape dimensions" check that numeric fields use a dot as the decimal separator (e.g., 12.5) and no thousands separators; the importer flags the exact row with an error. "File too large" means your plan image exceeded 25 MB — open it in Preview/Photoshop and export at 150 DPI or compress to under 10 MB; for calibration issues use the "Calibrate image" tool with a known measurement or draw a reference line of a door/garage width. If the page hangs in Safari, switch to Chrome or clear local storage via the browser's site settings and reload.

    Calculations and plan tracing are performed client-side in your browser; uploaded files are not stored on our servers for reuse and nothing is associated with an account because there is no signup. The browser may keep session data (inputs and unsaved areas) in localStorage until you clear it or close the tab — use "Export Draft (CSV)" before closing to preserve work. If you need to share results, use the "Download Report (PDF)" or "Export CSV/XLSX" which triggers a client-side download; no external link generation or cloud storage occurs.
