The tool first computes the covered area from your shape and divides by the single paver area then rounds up to whole units, and includes an adjustable "Wastage" percentage in the right-hand panel (default 7% for straight patterns). Joint width is included in the effective paver dimension calculation (input in mm or inches), and the report shows both "Exact count" (before rounding) and "Recommended purchase" (after waste and rounding).
You can upload JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, TIFF, HEIC and PDF files up to 25 MB per file (Chrome/Firefox handle this best; Safari may convert HEICs on iOS). After uploading, click "Calibrate image" and draw a line between two known points, then enter the real-world dimension to set scale; this is required for accurate traced areas. If a PDF has multiple pages the tool reads the first vector/raster page only, and if the upload fails, use a 72–150 DPI exported PNG or a compressed PDF under 10 MB.

The calculator works in Chrome and Firefox on desktop with full functionality; Safari and mobile browsers support basic estimating but have two limitations: iOS Safari may convert HEIC images and can run out of memory with very large plans (over ~5,000 sq ft traced), and multi-area CSV imports are slower on mobile.
