Merge Images Online Free accepts JPG/JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF (static frames only), BMP, TIFF and HEIC uploads. Individual files up to ~50 MB usually work fine in Chrome and Firefox on desktop; total upload around 200 MB is a practical ceiling before browser memory limits. On mobile Safari/older browsers, we recommend files under 20 MB each or fewer than 10 images to avoid crashes. Animated GIFs are flattened to the first frame; for full animation you’ll need a dedicated GIF editor.
Yes — select Vertical under Layout to stack photos top-to-bottom, or choose Grid mode and set Rows and Columns in the Grid settings (for example 3x4). The tool handles up to about 30 images comfortably in desktop Chrome/Firefox; above that you may hit memory errors or long processing times. Use the Auto fit, Scale to fit, or Crop-to-fill options to control how differently sized images are aligned inside each cell, and set Max width/height (for example 5000 px) to keep output manageable.
When exporting JPG you’ll have a Quality slider (1–100) — 85 is a good balance between size and visual fidelity; lower values reduce file size but introduce compression artifacts. PNG export is lossless and preserves transparency but produces larger files, especially for photographs. WebP often gives the smallest file at equal perceived quality; choose Export as → WebP. There’s also a Keep EXIF checkbox; turning it off removes metadata and slightly reduces output size. You can preview file size before downloading.
Safari on iOS sometimes supplies HEIC images in a way that breaks in-browser editors; if Upload fails try converting in the Photos app using Share → Save as JPEG or use the Files app to export JPG. Chrome/Edge on desktop with HEIC codecs can upload HEIC directly, but if the tool can’t parse a file you’ll see a “Unsupported format” error. As a workaround use the Convert to JPG option in your phone’s Share menu or export images via Apple’s Photos → File → Export to JPG before uploading.
There is no signup required and the merged image does not include a watermark; the Download button provides a clean merged file. By default merging runs in your browser (local processing) so your files don’t need to be uploaded to a server. If you attempt to merge very large totals that exceed browser memory limits, the interface will offer an Upload for server processing checkbox with an explicit consent prompt and a progress bar; temporary server uploads are removed after 24 hours.
If an upload fails first check file type and size — oversized files or unsupported extensions (like some RAW formats) will be rejected with an error. Blank or white areas after export are usually due to exporting JPEG over transparent PNG content; set a Background color in the Layout panel before merging. Memory errors on mobile mean reduce resolution by enabling Resize to width (for example 1500 px) or upload fewer images. If images hosted remotely fail to load, download them locally and then use Upload images (cross-origin protections block hotlinking).
Desktop Chrome and Firefox handle larger batches and higher resolutions; they support drag-and-drop and will process up to ~30 files of ~50 MB each depending on RAM. Mobile Safari on iOS can run out of memory with more than 8–10 high-resolution images or files over ~20 MB, and file pickers on iOS don’t support drag-and-drop — use the Upload images button. Note also that iOS sometimes embeds orientation EXIF that appears rotated; enable Auto-rotate in the Layout options or convert the image via Photos before uploading.
Yes — the Layout panel includes Spacing (px) to set pixel gaps between images, Alignment options (Top/Middle/Bottom for horizontal layouts; Left/Center/Right for vertical), and a Background color picker for JPEG exports or flattened PNGs. There is also a Border size field (in pixels) and Border color selector if you want framed images. For transparent outputs, choose PNG and check Transparent background; be aware that exporting to JPG will flatten transparency to the chosen Background color.

When processing finishes click the Download button; the browser will save the file using the default name merged.jpg, merged.png or merged.webp depending on your Export as choice. Most desktop browsers save to the Downloads folder by default (Chrome/Firefox), while Safari may prompt or use your configured Downloads location; if a file with that name already exists your browser will append (1) or similar. There’s also a Copy to clipboard option for quick paste into documents and a Save as dialog where you can change the filename before saving.
