The app supports standard 301, 501 and 701 presets from the Game Settings dropdown and also a Custom Start option where you can type any integer between 101 and 1000. You can run matches with up to 16 players (set Max Players in Game Settings), though the UI recommends 2–8 players for clarity on mobile and TV-mode. Rounds are unlimited in the browser session; very long games (several hundred rounds) may increase memory use and affect export performance on low-memory devices.
Click New Game, use Add Player to type or paste names, then choose Start Score and rule toggles (Double Out, Double In). During play click the player's panel and use the numeric keypad or type on your keyboard, then press Enter or the Submit button to log a throw; the app auto-advances through three throws per turn. For mistakes use Undo (single click undoes last throw; long-press or the Undo dropdown deletes the whole last round).
When Auto-Bust Detection is enabled (checkbox in Game Settings, enabled by default), the tool flags a turn as a bust if a throw would leave a score below zero, or leave exactly 1 when Double Out is required, or if the final dart is not a double on a double-out finish. On bust the player's score reverts to the value at the start of that turn, the screen shows a red BUST badge in the player's panel, and turn passes to the next player. If you prefer manual play you can toggle Auto-Bust off, but then you must enforce bust rules yourself.
Press Hint Checkout while a player is on the oche to see up to three suggested finishing sequences computed against the current rules (Double Out, Double In). The suggestions cover all legal finishes up to 170 (for example 170 shows as T20, T20, Bull), list each dart as S/T/D/bull, and indicate which dart must be a double. The popup also includes a Quick Copy button to paste the recommended sequence into chat or your notes.
Use Export CSV to download a detailed .csv file (UTF-8, comma-separated) with columns: Player, Round, ScoreBefore, Throw1, Throw2, Throw3, ScoreAfter, BustFlag. For a visual copy use Save Scoreboard PNG which writes a .png file rendered from the canvas (default 1920x1080). You can also Save Game as JSON (.json) to reload later, and print to PDF via your browser’s Print dialog (File → Print or Ctrl/Cmd+P) which produces a standard .pdf using browser compression.
The Export Settings menu lets you choose Standard (1920×1080) or High-res (3840×2160) PNG; a 1920×1080 scoreboard is typically 1–5 MB, while 3840×2160 ranges 6–20 MB depending on number of players and rounds. PNG is lossless and best for crisp TV display or archiving, whereas browser Print→PDF usually yields smaller files (around 200–800 KB) because the browser applies compression and vector text during printing. Larger PNGs can fail on low-memory mobile browsers; if you see a blank export, try the smaller resolution or Print→PDF instead.
Use the Import Players button and upload a UTF-8 encoded .csv file; the parser accepts files with a header named PlayerName (case-insensitive) and up to 100 lines. If you include extra columns the importer ignores them and reads the first 100 names; imported lists beyond the app’s Max Players (16) will be clipped to the first 16 entries. Common errors show as Import Error: Invalid Encoding—fix by re-saving the CSV as UTF-8 without BOM in Excel or Notepad++ and retry.
The app runs in Chrome, Firefox and Edge with full Service Worker caching so it works offline after the first load; Safari on iOS has limited background service worker support so offline reliability is lower. On iOS Safari very large games or high-res PNG export can trigger memory errors (blank export or OOM); the workaround is to use Chrome on Android or desktop Chrome/Firefox for big exports, or use Print→PDF on iOS. Full Screen and TV Mode work best on desktop browsers; iOS Safari may prompt to add to Home Screen to get a pseudo-fullscreen PWA experience.
On desktop the app supports Enter to submit a throw, numeric keys for direct score entry, Z to Undo last throw, and Ctrl/Cmd+S to open the Export dialog (browser may intercept for Save Page). For Undo options click the small chevron on the Undo button to choose Undo Last Throw or Undo Last Round; on mobile long-press Undo to reveal the same menu. The scoreboard panels also support double-clicking a player's name to edit it mid-game without restarting.
Game state is stored locally in your browser’s localStorage and as downloadable .json when you choose Save Game; nothing is sent to our servers unless you explicitly click Share or Export and upload externally. You can clear the local data from Settings → Clear Local Data; the app does not require signup or store personal info on a server by default. If you use the optional Share link feature a minimal, time-limited snapshot is uploaded to generate a permalink — you’ll be warned and shown the upload size first.
Compared with Excel spreadsheets, Darts Calculator Online automates bust logic, turn sequencing, and checkout suggestions out of the box, then exports a ready-to-analyze .csv if you want per-throw data in Excel for deeper stats. Versus creating a visual scoreboard in Photoshop, the app provides an interactive, live-updating scoreboard and direct PNG export at screen-ready resolutions—Photoshop gives you more graphic control but requires manual score updates. For broadcasters who need a stylized overlay, export the PNG at 3840×2160 and import into OBS or your graphics pipeline.
If Save Scoreboard PNG produces a blank image, that’s usually an out-of-memory issue on mobile Safari—switch to desktop Chrome/Firefox or choose a lower export resolution in Export Settings. Import CSV failures typically mean wrong encoding or header name; re-save as UTF-8 without BOM and ensure the first header is PlayerName. If Undo seems not to work, check that Auto-Save is enabled (Settings) because some undo history is kept only in-memory until a local save is triggered; toggling Auto-Save off/on will reset that behavior.
