Supported inputs are JPG/JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP and most modern HEIC files from iPhones; output stays in the same format by default but you can convert to WebP for the smallest size. Per-file limit is around 50 MB and batch mode accepts up to 20 images at once, with no daily quota. Files bigger than that or 20-megapixel+ PNGs may fail on low-RAM phones — resize to 2000 px on the long edge first and compression will finish in seconds.
For photos saved as JPEG, quality 80 is nearly indistinguishable from the original at roughly 30–50% of the size, and 60–70 is fine for web thumbnails. PNG is lossless by default, so the compressor uses palette reduction and zlib optimization — expect 20–40% savings on screenshots and UI graphics without any visible change. WebP at quality 75 typically beats JPEG by another 25–30% at the same visual quality, which makes it the best pick for websites where modern browsers are the target.
At quality 80+ on JPEG most people cannot tell the compressed version from the original on screen; artifacts start to appear below 60 as blocky patches in flat sky, skin tones or gradients. PNG stays pixel-perfect because the compression is lossless, so logos and line art keep crisp edges. If you need archival originals, keep the source file and use compressed copies for email, WhatsApp or web upload — the tool never overwrites your original.
Everything runs 100% in your browser using the Canvas and WebAssembly encoders — files never leave your device, which is why the page keeps working even if you switch to airplane mode after loading it. PNG uses lossless compression, so photographic PNGs (screenshots of photos, exported from Photoshop with 24-bit color) often only shrink 10–20%. To get bigger savings, convert to JPEG at quality 80 (great for photos) or WebP at 75 — both are offered from the format dropdown. Keep PNG only when you need transparency or crisp text/logo edges; otherwise WebP with alpha is a modern replacement that is 30–50% smaller.
Yes, but with two caveats. iPhone HEIC files are converted to JPEG on the fly before compression, which adds a second or two per file; iOS Safari also caps memory around 300 MB, so very large 48-megapixel ProRAW files may fail — a single HEIC under 15 MB works fine. Android Chrome handles WebP output natively and is generally the fastest mobile browser for batch runs; Samsung Internet works too but is slightly slower on PNG palette reduction.
"Unsupported format" usually means a RAW file (.CR2, .NEF, .ARW) — export to JPEG or TIFF from Lightroom/Photos first. "Out of memory" appears on phones with huge PNGs; resize on the same page to 2000 px and retry. If the Download button does nothing, your browser likely blocked the download prompt — check the address-bar shield icon and allow downloads for this site, or try Incognito mode which starts with default permissions.
Photoshop's Save for Web gives you the finest per-image control (progressive JPEG, chroma subsampling, metadata stripping) and is unbeatable for one-off hero images, but it takes minutes per file. Resize first, compress second — most photos on the web only need 1600–2000 px on the long edge, and dropping resolution saves more space than any quality tweak. Convert photos to WebP quality 75 for the web and to JPEG quality 82 for email; keep PNG only for screenshots and logos with sharp edges. Strip EXIF metadata (enabled by default in the Advanced panel) to shave another 5–20 KB per photo, and always compare the preview side-by-side before downloading.
